First TMP Workshop at Paris-Montreuil, September 2022
Workshop Overview
The workshop focused on exploring religious extremism, both Islamic and Christian, and on how theatrical practices can foster a better understanding of these issues and offer creative ways to engage in dialogue with young people.
The three-day program began with an introduction to the TMP project, followed by knowledge-sharing sessions on religion and extremism, led by experts. Participants also exchanged methods on using theatrical practices to address issues of citizenship and politics.
A significant portion of the workshop was dedicated to co-creation sessions based on the design thinking approach, with the goal of defining the future methodology of the TMP project. This approach was inspired by the Creative Commune project, which is also supported by Erasmus+.
Participants and Objectives
The group of participants included experts, artists, NGO activists, as well as young adults aged 18 to 30, all interested in the intersection of theater, citizenship, and religion. The workshop aimed to balance representation between genders and between younger and more experienced participants.
The discussions and workshops culminated in the drafting of a collective manifesto, intended to serve as a framework for future TMP actions. This manifesto outlines the essential points to consider when creating methods to address extremism through theatrical practices.
Conclusion and Next Steps
The workshop concluded with an evaluation session and a discussion on the next steps for the project. Participants committed to further developing innovative educational methods that use theater as a tool to promote dialogue and mutual understanding among young people.
This first workshop in Paris-Montreuil marks the beginning of a series of events that will continue in Greece, Portugal, and North Macedonia, with the ambition of building a European network of trainers capable of combating anti-democratic forces through creative and educational tools.
